Ready for the car

Well after some delays the engineer came to install my home charger. Getting the wire from my consumer unit which is now in the middle of the house to an outside wall was slightly tricky and made worse by the engineer being unwilling to lift floorboards to run the cable leaving me to do that to make a neat job.

The charger now has a spot on the wall with its blue light waiting for delivery of the car on Monday.

The charger can be connected to its own app on my phone that both gives information about the charger and allows to the charger to be programmed for scheduled charging as well as giving a summary of the charging that has occurred which will be useful to record on a monthly basis in. this blog.

As part of getting ready and after reading and watching you tube videos on the various tariff I decided to change to Octopus Energy and then as I have a SMET2 meter I have already asked to be changed onto the Go Tariff which will give me 4 hours of cheap energy to charge every night.

At 7Kw from the charger that should give me around 28Kw of power over the 4 hours of cheap rates. The battery in the car is 50Kw so this amount could charge the car to full from a 50% charge state.

Whether the car should be charged to 100% continuously is something I need to further investigate as I have read some conflicting views about whether doing so will reduce battery life

so much to learn

I have changed my energy supplier to Octopus Energy that has a referral scheme whereby if you change to it using this link you will get a credit of £50 ( I will also get a credit of £50) http://share.octopus.energy/peach-rill-315
